Halloween 2023
Theme: A Scientific Exhibition at Castle Frankenstein
The Event
This year, we invited guests into Frankenstein’s lab. The party featured several interactive props, including a flashing electric chair, a brain bubbler, a giant Jacob’s ladder, and a photo wall. Not pictured is this years rendition of shot roulette that featured 10 different types of shots ranging from a delicious green tea shot to a straight shot of tequila.
Construction
Matt took on the role of lead construction manager while I stuck to painter, graphic designer, and moral supporter. Over the course of 2 months, he constructed 4 giant, interactive props that used a variety of lighting effects.
I wanted to nail down the dusty, slightly grimy victorian era vibe of the book Frankenstein. After rereading the book and watching several of the classic films, I used my knowledge to generate a variety of signage around the party. I researched different types of victorian ornamentation and font styles used in printing presses at the time. I used the fonts Grand Baron (Regular) and Soul Handwriting to achieve the effect I wanted.
For the drink names, I dug deep into a variety of texts and websites to find names of alchemical substances and different types of creations alchemists were aiming to create in this time period. Out of all of the drinks, the Elixir of Life was the most popular, followed by the Panacea. We made our own lemon simple syrup which took over 20 lemons, zested and squeezed.
